Daily living equipment

If you or someone you know has a need for simple aids to daily living, such as a commode or bath aids, there are different places to go for help and advice throughout Cumbria:

Equipment from Adult Social Care and the NHS

You may be able to obtain equipment free of charge following an assessment of your needs from a health or social care practitioner, such as a District Nurse or Occupational Therapist.

If you are eligible for equipment, they will give you a prescription you can take to an accredited equipment retailer to exchange for the item(s) you need.

If your assessment says you need more specialist equipment such as a bath lift, pressure cushion or mattress, hoist or hospital style bed, these items will be provided by the Community Equipment Service.

Buy your own equipment

You can buy your own equipment online or from a local equipment retailer.  If you would like some help to decide what would be the best equipment to meet your needs, you can:

  • Assess your own needs online
  • Visit a local advice centre
  • Visit a local equipment retailer
