Barrow & District Disability Association
Open Tues to Fri 10am to 3pm
Barrow and District Disability Association (registered Charity No. 5413162) is a small, user-led organisation, where disabled and non-disabled people work together to promote the equality and full participation of disabled people in the community and society as a whole. We do this by providing expert advice, information and support to enable people with disabilities, their families, carers and professionals the knowledge to make informed choices.
Among the services we offer are: -
• Disability Advice and Benefits Service
We can provide help with form filling for disability benefits and is available for all ages by appointment. Benefit checks and home visits are also available by appointment. We provide up-to-date information on a variety of topics, from Blue Badge applications to accessible holidays and can signpost to specialist services if required.
• Education and Leisure Courses
We offer a variety of courses in our Centre including I.T., Art, Dressmaking, Beading, Paper Crafts and Sign Language and deliberately keep our classes small to ensure one-to-one support for those students who need that bit more support.
• Complementary Therapies
We offer a wide range of complementary therapies at low cost to disabled people and people with chronic health and/or complex medical conditions.
• Room Hire
We can offer flexible areas suitable for meetings or training and our Centre is fully accessible with plenty of parking.
• Wheelchair Hire
We hire out manual wheelchairs for short-term use in return for a small donation.
• Willow Tree Café
We have our own in-house Café, which not only serves top quality, healthy food, but also acts as a hub for disabled people of the community.
